Ishti is a collaborative team composed of Kinnari Vora and Preeti Veerlapati. Leveraging their mixed upbringings and experiences, the duo's artistic work draws inspiration from their Eastern and Western dance trainings in Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Kallari, Folk and Western Contemporary. The duo strives to focus on topics that are both relevant and accessible to their communities.
Ishti was originally conceived in February 2015, when a trio of dancers (Anu Bhatt, Kinnari Vora, Preeti Veerlapati) decided they wanted to create a production of their own that addressed their experiences with failure. After the debut of “Failure”, Preeti knew the group needed to keep persevering and building on their experience. In December 2015, Preeti Veerlapati applied for and won the City of Chicago’s Individual Artist Program grant which led to their very first production "seeking to be".
